Love for the ancient Finnish music culture has made the MeNaiset members both as a group and as individuals to get acquainted with and to bring to light the Kalevala rune world. The MeNaiset repertoire includes both lyric and epic folk poems. The importance of Kalevala runes and the Kalevala music aesthetics can be seen in the fact that MeNaiset uses them constantly in creating their new repertoire. More recent Finnish folk music tradition with its roundelays, polskas and hymns, have also been brought up by MeNaiset in their new
arrangements.

Throughout their history of singing together the MeNaiset members have either alone or together made arrangements for the ensemble. As time has passed, and new repertoires have become a necessity, the amount of compositions has grown, and it has also become important for the singers to find new musical directions. In the more recent arrangements influence of other music cultures can be heard. Apart from individual composing, carried out by all members of the group, MeNaiset also composes together by improvising and includes improvisation
into their songs. Some of the ensemble´s compositions appear the their newest record,
Mastorava.
