Anna-Kaisa Liedes (born in 1962 in Haukipudas) became charmed by kantele music already as a child; she was at the time making music amongst others with Ilona Porma´s Kantele Girls and the song group Canterinas. Anna-Kaisa´s professional music studies began at the department of music education at Sibelius Academy in 1982; however, the following year she became a student at the newly-established department of folk music. During her student years Anna-Kaisa played kantele and sang in Niekku ensemble and assisted the professional folk music ensemble Tallari. Anna-Kaisa got the masters in kantele and singing in 1989. At the moment, Anna-Kaisa is preparing her artistic doctoral studies on the possibilities of the human voice.

Apart from traditional folk music Anna-Kaisa has been absorbed in expressing one´s inner feelings by vocal improvisation. Different vocal compositions, born out of these experiments, Anna-Kaisa has realized together with Heikki Laitinen and Maria Kalaniemi and as a duo with the percussionist Petri Korpela, to name just a few; Anna-Kaisa´s vocal compositions have
also been performed together with Voice Theatre Iki-Turso and the Makale ensemble. Anna-Kaisa´s more traditional compositions as well as folk music arrangements have been performed by her Anna-Kaisa Liedes & UTUA ensemble. Anna-Kaisa has performed both alone and with her bands all over the world; her latest involvement was in the Nordic project Siemen - Moa (2001). Anna-Kaisa works as lecturer at the Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department, and she has also made music in theatres and dance theatres; she was also the artistic manager of the Ääniä! (Voices!) happening which brought up various ways of experimenting in vocal art (1999, 2000). Liedes has made also film music to Markku Lehmuskallios ja Anastasia Lapsuins film Jumalan Morsian (2003).
